Cicely's final entry for 1898, 116 years ago, gives little indication of the turning of a new year. The weather is bad, she takes a short walk and comes home for tea. I guess the excesses of new year celebrations had yet to reach anywhere near today's proportions, at least in rural Northumberland. This is my last transcription of the diary too. Rather sad, though it's been a long haul and not always easy to fit it in.
